Greening Taupō community plantings started with a Contact Energy planting on 1st of June 2013.

Cyclone Gabrielle left a trail of devastation and heartbreak throughout the North Island

The first community planting of the season was a great success, with a huge turnout of over 150 people coming out to the golf club to plant over 2000 native plants.

Planting starts at 10 am - remember daylight savings finishes this weekend.

It has been another successful planting season for Greening Taupō. Over 25000 native plants were planted during our 10 community planting days, and 3000 + volunteers helped us plant them.

Contact Energy continues to plant 1000’s of native trees within the Taupō area. They annually join up with Greening Taupō to support a planting event along Wairakei Drive for the community, as well as providing additional trees for the Taupō Golf Club planting.

Our annual Arbor Day planting, promoted as Greening Taupō Day was on steroids this year thanks to the growth of Kids Greening Taupō!! Even with the threatening rain on the event day, the planting was a hit with heaps of local Taupō schools and ECE centres participating.

Since 2020 Greening Taupō has been collaborating with Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board to restore the banks of the Waikato River.

Shawn the Vegetator Vennell has been a busy man, as usual, running his business, and maintaining the planted sites along Wairakei Drive.

In early 2022, Sarah Battson cycled the length of Aotearoa in a blistering 21 days and raised $10,000 for Greening Taupō. What an awesome achievement!
