2022 Planting Season

And that's a wrap on another successful planting season for Greening Taupō!! Over 25,000 native plants were planted by over 3,000 volunteers across our 10 community planting days this year.

It was great to see everyone coming out in all types of weather and making time during crazy busy schedules to help support Greening Taupō and get more native trees in the ground. The community planting events ran so smoothly due to the amazing support we received from the awesome teams that help clear the sites from weeds and dig the many holes (Tania, Malcolm, Shawn, Andrew, Ben, Hutch and many others who helped dig 25,000 holes) through to the wonderful Wicked Weeders that help unload truckloads of plants, set them out and return to each planting site to check the plants are in the ground and mulched thoroughly. Kids Greening Taupō coordinators Rachel and Heidi, and their student leaders that turn up to support each community planting are superstars! They help set up, sign people in, show volunteers how to plant like a ninja, help out on the BBQ and stay to pack up all while having a great time.

Partners such as Taupō District Council, Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board and long-running supporters Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary who once again donated funds raised from their Locals Day in December, it’s a fantastic fundraiser for Greening Taupō. Along with many other community groups, businesses, organisations and individuals that support us with funds, trees or their valuable time, you are all part of what makes our mahi possible - improving the local environment for the people and native wildlife.

Thanks everyone! We’re looking forward to another fun planting season in 2023.
