Wicked Weeders 15th September
Hi all,
It's a big week this week, with our final community planting of the season happening this Saturday, 19 September, at Whakaipō Bay! 🌱
But first, for Wicked Weeders this Tuesday, we'll head to Gates Park at the Control Gates. We’ll put a few flaxes into their new home, and thanks to Hutch, the long grass has already been cleared and a few holes prepared ready for planting.
Getting the flaxes in probably won't take us too long, so once that's done we'll spread out and give some of the nearby plantings a bit of attention.
The plan for Tuesday:
🌳 Plant flaxes
🌳 Clear long grass from around existing plants
🌳 Cut and paste any woody weeds or blackberry we find throughout the site
I'll bring a selection of tools and, of course, afternoon tea to share. 😊
Time: 12:30–2:45 pm
Place: Control Gates
The forecast is looking good. The area where we'll be planting the flaxes is a little soggy underfoot, so please wear sturdy footwear and don't forget your gloves.
🌱 Friday 18 September – Whakaipō Bay Setup Day
This is our big prep day for Saturday's planting. We have some great support from DOC, but any extra Wicked Weeder hands would be very much appreciated!
The plant delivery will arrive at 8:00 am, and we'll start by filling the holes with vermicast before laying out the plants ready for Saturday.
📍 Whakaipō Bay, off Mapara Road. The planting site is behind the Girl Guides. We'll park near the Girl Guides at the bottom and walk up to the site.
🌱 Saturday 19 September – Community Planting Day, 10:00 am
Our last community planting of the season at Whakaipō Bay! Everyone is very welcome to come along and help us finish off another fantastic planting season. 🌳
🌱 Tuesday 22 September – Follow-up check from 11:00 am
We'll head back to the Whakaipō Bay planting site to check over the new plants and make sure everything has been planted and mulched well.
