Wicked Weeders 2nd and 3rd June

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend. It’s great to finally see some rain, as it’s certainly been in short supply lately! Hopefully, it doesn’t dampen the fun this week.

At this stage, the weather forecast for Tuesday isn't looking particularly great (rain warning and all), although Wednesday is shaping up a little better.

We have some fantastic support lined up for setup week, and Wicked Weeders support is very welcome to join us on Tuesday and/or Wednesday before coming back to celebrate with us on Thursday for Greening Taupō Day.

🌱Tuesday 12.30-2.30 pm, if not too wet and anytime from 9 am on Wednesday

Please come prepared with suitable wet-weather gear, gloves and sturdy footwear as the ground is uneven in places.

I’ll have a gazebo on-site for shelter, along with hot and cold drinks available throughout the day. Morning and afternoon tea will also be provided. Please note there are no toilet facilities on-site

Plan for all volunteers supporting the setup below.

Tuesday 2 June – Site Setup Begins

  • A site meeting is planned for 9.00am. However, due to the heavy rain warning, we will assess conditions at that time and may postpone augering until midday, when the rain is expected to have eased.

  • Hole digging.

  • Holes will be refilled with vermicast.

  • Fertiliser tablets will be placed in prepared holes.

  • Delivery of approximately 3,000 plants from He Tipu throughout the day. We won’t put any of these out till Wednesday.

Wednesday 3 June – Final Preparations from 9 am

  • Completion of any remaining hole digging.

  • Vermicast and fertiliser tablets added to all remaining holes.

  • Delivery of approximately 1,000 plants from Corrections.

  • 4000 plants are out ready for planting day next to the holes.

  • Stakes will also be placed alongside plants.

Thursday 4 June – Greening Taupō Day!

From 10.00am, come along and enjoy the action!

Tuesday 9 June – Follow-up Check

From 12.30pm, we'll return to the Tauhara Road planting site to check that all plants have been planted correctly and are settling in well. 🌿

Thank you all for your ongoing support. We couldn't do this without all our amazing volunteers, and we're looking forward to another great Greening Taupō Day.
