Wicked Weeders 17th March 🌱
Kia ora all,
This Tuesday, we’ll be heading to the 2025 Greening Taupō Day planting site off Tauhara Road, beside the golf course. Fleabane has really taken off across the site. It’s prolific and fast-growing, thriving in dry, disturbed areas. The best way to deal with it is to pull it out; removing it will reduce competition with the native plantings and help the site look its best for the next Greening Taupō day celebration coming up in June. 🎉
While we’re there, we’ll also check the native plants, making sure stakes are straight and secure, and tying up any plants that need a bit of extra support.
KGT have encouraged some students to join us, so it would be helpful if a few of the team could buddy up with them and guide them through the tasks.
Time: 9.30 am – 11.30 am
Parking: It’s best not to park along the planting site by the golf course, as there’s a high risk of golf balls causing damage. Instead, either park at the entrance along the main road or drive in and park behind the planting.
The forecast is looking good, with early cloud clearing to a fine day. The ground is uneven in places, so please wear sturdy footwear and bring your gloves.
Our main task will be pulling fleabane by hand, but I’ll bring a few grubbers, mallets, ties and morning tea. 💚
See you there!
