Wicked Weeders 10th June
Wow ā what a week we had!
A huge thank you once again for all the amazing support we received in the lead-up to Greening TaupÅ Day on Thursday. From helping set up to being there on the day ā we couldnāt have done it without you!
Despite the wild, changeable weather, we had a fantastic turnout, and the atmosphere was full of energy and smiles. š§āļøš§š
All 3,000 plants were planted ā not all were mulched or staked just yet, but weāll make a plan to get that done, and while it might not be 100% perfect, it was still absolutely incredible to see so many people getting outside, into nature, a bit muddy, a bit soggy ā and loving every minute of it!
The event had about 50 awesome stalls, many of which shared hands-on environmental activities and displays, there was so much knowledge being shared; weāre sure some of it made its way into the minds (and hopefully hearts!) of the hundreds of tamariki and adults who joined in on the day, which is what the day is all about š
2025 Arbor Day - thanks for the photo Hutch we are still sorting ours
Plan for Tomorrow š±
You guessed it ā tomorrow weāre heading back to the planting site. Our top priority will be replanting and checking that all the plants are sitting snug in the ground.
With the huge amount of rain we had the night before the event, a lot of the loose soil around the planting holes was washed away. Thankfully, weād already filled the holes with vermicast and soil, but the rain compacted it quite a bit. As a result, many of the plants are now sitting a bit high, with their roots slightly exposed.
Weāll be going through and replanting any that need it, making sure theyāre well-heeled in and ready to thrive.
š 12:30 ā 2:45 pm
𧤠Bring your gloves and a spade if youād like ā Iāll also bring a few to share.
š¦ The weather looks cool and changeable, so come prepared ā Iāll be there rain or shine.
š§ Iāll bring along some afternoon tea ā muffins and cake included!
Thereās still a lot of mulching and staking to be done, but tomorrow weāll focus on the plants first. If the weather holds on Wednesday morning, Iāve got a group from Pathways lined up to help move some mulch ā and thereās always next week to chip away at the rest.
See you there!
