Wicked Weeders 3rd June
Hello, wonderful Wicked Weeders!
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, We have a fun and busy week ahead of us. This Thursday, 5th June, is our big Greening Taupō Day, featuring a special Arbor Day planting—and once again we would love your help to make it a success!
This year’s planting site is slightly further along from where we were last year 🌱🌱🌱
Access the site from Tauhara Rd, just down from the BP. It is advisable to park either at the entrance or along the road. Parking adjacent to the planting site is not recommended due to the active golf course, which poses a risk of vehicles being struck.
Here’s what’s happening and the plan for tomorrow:
We already have vermicast on-site, and Hutch has been hard at work, augering over 800 holes (fantastic effort!). Andrew will continue drilling more holes, and we’ll have DOC support joining us from about 9:15 AM. Around 10 AM, we’re expecting a full truckload of beautiful plants to arrive from corrections!
🌳If you can join us at 10 am tomorrow, we’ll start by filling the pre-dug holes with vermicast and then laying out the plants on the refilled holes. It would also be a huge help if we could clear the site of sticks, pinecones, and any other tripping hazards—especially those pesky prickly pears. Its going to be a busy planting and we want everyone to stay safe and comfortable while planting
Feel free to stay for a couple of hours, or if 10 am doesn’t work for you, you can drop by whenever it suits you. I’ll be there all day, so come along at any time. Please remember to bring your gloves and sturdy footwear, as the ground is uneven. We will have buckets available for collecting the vermicast.
The weather looks fine but cool, so dress warmly.
And of course, I’ll bring along a delicious morning tea to keep everyone fuelled!
Looking forward to seeing you there
🌳If you want to join us on Wednesday
The final hole digging will be completed. We are expecting the rest of the plants to arrive at 8am, we’ll continue filling holes with vermicast and laying out plants.
🌳The big day, Thursday 6 June – Greening Taupō Day!
From 10am come along and check out the action! There’ll be awesome activities, a big community planting, free hot soup, and venison sausages 😁
We are in need of more volunteers to help support the team to make this day run smoothly!
