Weeders on Friday this week

Hi all,

What a fantastic day we had for the Tauhara planting on Saturday. We were really lucky with the weather, perfect conditions, just ahead of the wind and rain brought in by Cyclone Vaianu on Sunday.

All the plants are now in the ground and have had a great natural watering in. It was great to see a good turnout, including a couple of Wicked Weeders joining in. It’s truly a special event to be part of.

I’ve also been really enjoying walking up the track lately and seeing how well everything is growing. The first 15 minutes of the climb up the maunga has definitely become a lot more enjoyable than it used to be!

As the weather is a bit unpredictable at the moment, tomorrow could be a bit wet, then again, it might not be 🤔. We’ll postpone tomorrow’s Weeders session, and if anyone is keen to help on Friday 17th with plant setup for Saturday’s planting, that would be amazing.

The planting site is on Karetoto Rd, opposite Huka Honey Hive.

Andrew and Ben have been busy keeping previous plantings looking great, and the team, including Shawn, has done an amazing job preparing this year’s site. Hutch has started on the holes, and the 1,700 holes should all be in by Friday. Vermicast has been incredibly beneficial to the success of past plantings, and once again, we’ll be keen to add vermicast into the holes.

Friday 17th

🌱 Plants will be delivered to the Karetoto planting site at 8:00am and 12:00pm. Any support to unload and lay out the 1700 plants will be really appreciated, along with adding vermicast into the holes. Come along at a time that suits you. Bring your gloves and be prepared for the weather. I will bring some buckets and a couple of wheelbarrows.

We’ll likely have coffee breaks at 10:00am and 1:30pm ☕🍰

Coming up:

Saturday 18th April – Karetoto Community Planting (from 11am)
