Wicked Weeders from 12 pm🌳
Hi all,
Wow! Another planting season is officially over. Thanks to you all that helped make it such a successful season💚 but you are still all very much needed as the plants still need our loving and the weeds will keep coming 😁
For this Tuesday’s Wicked Weeders session (Starting at 12) we’ll be heading out to the Whakaipo Bay planting site that was held on Saturday. It was a fantastic day with an incredible turnout 🌳A huge thank you to all who helped with the setup, it was a very wet and soggy setup 🌧️But the planting day was fine, but windy and you definitely needed to wrap up warm.
We will head out to Whakaipō Bay to check that all the plants are properly planted and to tidy up any remaining work. This ensures the best possible survival rates for the newly planted natives, and we would hate to have any forgotten pots blowing around. They all got a good drink pre and post planting 🌧️
🌳 Check that plants are not too deep or shallow and are heeled in
🌳 Stake and tie any plants that require it. We dont need to stake for relocating the weeds will be kept under control, its a bustery site so staking will be more for support
🌳 We have a few rabbit guards to put around the tasty plants – kowhais mostly
📍 Whakaipō Bay 2025 planting site
Whakaipo Bay off Mapara Road. The planting site is halfway down the access road on the left. We’ll park near the Girl Guides at the bottom and walk back up. There is some parking near the planting area, but it’s been ripped up, so not ideal if it’s wet.
Wrap up warm
Heidi will bring out the stakes, ties, mallets, guards and afternoon tea
Thanks
