Wicked Weeders January 30th

Hi all,

I hope everyone's year is off to a fantastic start. I have been enjoying the holidays with the family, and luckily, the rain has been perfectly timed to help all our plants out there thrive 🌳 Surprisingly, the kids have not shared my happiness when it has rained

I have had a look around to see how a few of the sites are going. There is a lot of tall grass and a few weeds coming through, as expected, but most plantings are doing well 🌳

Our first Weedies session is tomorrow from 930am, and I am excited to get everyone back together and into it 💚

It's still pretty warm out in the sunshine so I have planned to do some weeding under a canopy to keep us nice and cool. So the plan is to head into Crown Park Gully with one of our keen supporters who would appreciate a few extra hands to help out.

We will park up at the Taupo Family Play Centre off of Tauharepa Road. We can check out the centre’s small native planting and hopefully meet up with Jacob who is slowly dealing with a few weeds and rats in the gully.

We will be cutting and pasting or pulling the many flowering cherry seedlings and cotoneaster.

I think this could be a good Greening Taupō Project as it has some amazing established native trees, is an ecological corridor that GT has added additional native plants to, and the gully connects to a significant geothermal environment. I am going to try and get some funding to deal with the many weeds that are taking over and try and improve this area.

See you all tomorrow
