It remains a vision of Greening Taupo to establish islands of vegetation along the lakeshore reserves of groves of kowhai trees, under-planted with cliff flax and other small growing, drought tolerant species. These would be designed to consider both the safety of walkway users and the views of local residents. Some small projects have been undertaken by Greening Taupo and community partner Taupo Distirct Council has done some development in this area.
